Fourth graders started out the year by creating 1/4 of a radial pattern. Although students did not collaborate with peers as they designed their own square, it became a collaborative piece when they were all connected and laminated together. Each fourth grader has contributed to the colorful vestibule that leads into our classroom.

Are you ready for International Dot Day on September 15? If you are not sure what that is, check this out! You will learn more about "The Dot" and how to "make your mark" as the Wilson Creek Art Show approaches in February. For now, first graders practiced mixing the secondary colors to create their own Kandinsky-inspired dots.
After viewing and discussing artwork by Wassily Kandinsky, second graders were asked to create their own artwork that incorporated elements of his style (use of circles, repetition, lines, etc.) Each student took the assignment in a a unique direction, and no two paintings were the same. :)
Kindergarteners were introduced to the art room as well as abstract art this week. We went over proper ways to use and clean up paint supplies. Students also viewed artwork by Wassily Kandinsky. While listening to music, they let their brushes "dance" on they paper. We then used different stamping gadgets to add black paint on top.
I am so excited to be back in my art rooms! It is great to see my old friends as well as new faces. There are just a few changes to art class this year. First off, both Wilson Creek and Anna Mac art rooms now have little libraries for students to read more about art. Fiction and non-fiction books are represented. And at Wilson Creek, if students finish their projects before class is over, there are now stations for the kids to work at (modeling clay, weaving, wooden blocks, the art library, art games, and more). Also, please come visit the art room at Anna Mac during the Open House next week! We have had a fabulous renovation and it looks great! Thank you to Pete Slattery and his crew. Also, students will no longer travel with their art bins as we can now store everything we use in the room. I can say with confidence after our first day of school that this is going to be an awesome year! I can't wait to see what the kids are going to create. :) As always, please do not hesitate to email me with anything on your mind: [email protected] Ready or not, here it comes! So excited to start the year with Kandinsky and abstract art. The start of my classroom library at Wilson Creek. What are your favorite children's art books?
