Kindergartners are making collages this week that are inspired by Piet Mondrian. We first watched an animated video of some of his artwork (which I just love!) Then we talked about his use of primary colors, squares, rectangles, straight lines and how it was inspired by New York city and jazz music of the 1920s. We listened to jazz music as students made their own collages. They then stamped straight lines with scrap pieces of cardboard and black tempera paint.
